Mid-America Street Rod Nats – Part 1

The weekend started out great with a road trip to Springfield, MO.  And to answer one of the most asked questions, Yes, I drove the hot rod, it did not go on a trailer!

We only live a few hours from Springfield but it is a great trip and pretty scenic.  I was able to capture some of the landscape and the cars in our group with the GoPro cameras.  One of them in my car and one in a friends ’39 Dodge.  Click the link below to checkout the video of the road trip.

Hot Roads on the Road to NSRA Springfield

After we arrived in Springfield and getting registered for the car show and our hotels, we went to the kick-off part that is hosted by American National Insurance.  They host this in their parking lot of their offices in Springfield.  They take care of all the entertainment and feed everyone a pretty good BBQ dinner.  Sorry, no pics of the food!

Friday morning was an early start.  We got out to the fairgrounds and found our place to park and watch the cars come in… It’s fun to watch the different cars come in.  As always, there are some that you’ll love, some that you’ll like, and then there is always a few that you won’t like.  When there is 1200-1500 cars, there is something that will interest everyone.

Friday afternoon, I got to spend in the NSRA Inspection tent helping inspect some of the cars.  Most of the cars that we looked at passed with flying colors and received their ’23 Safety’ sticker.  Put of few of the 16 point stickers on, and failed a couple of vehicles for one reason or another.  But it’s always good to get these guys to look at your car every year.  Just having an extra set of eyes that isn’t familiar with your car, might just see something that needs to be fixed.

All in all, it was a good day and also ran in to some friends and saw some people that I have met in the past and haven’t seen for a couple of years.  Gonna be able to see a few more people that I know tomorrow and I always say, that is what this all about.  It’s as much about the people and friends as it is the cars.

Here are a few shots from the day, and you can click here for the rest!  Stay tuned for more…
